The game does not start. What can I do?
This can have a number of reasons, either on the side of your browser or on the side of our server. There is no point in discussing all the possible causes. If the game did not load, try to refresh the game page (F5). If that doesn't help, run the game in another online emulator. You do this simply by clicking on its name in the table of available online emulators, which you can find under the game in the window: 'Game info.'

The game is running, but I cannot control it.
Make sure that you are using the correct keys. For most games, a controls table is shown on the right-hand side of the game page. Click inside the game area so that the emulator receives keyboard input. If you switch to another browser window or tab, return to the game and click inside it again before continuing.

The game is running very slowly.
Check if you do not run another game in some another browser window. If yes, turn it off. If the game is still slow, quit all running programs you don't need at this moment, and restart the game by reloading the gamepage. If that didn't help, your computer probably isn't powerful enough to emulate this game directly in the browser.

Can I save my progress and continue later?
This depends on the emulator. EmulatorJS and some alternative emulators, such as NeptunJS, can create a save state and load it again later. The procedure differs between emulators, so use the emulator's save or save-state menu. Progress in DOS games can be saved only within the current session. It cannot be permanently stored on disk and restored after the session has ended.

How is the second player controlled?
First, check if selected emulator supports the second player. You can find it in the table of properties of individual emulators at the bottom of the 'Game info' window. If multiplayer is supported, you must manually configure the second player's controls by clicking the 'Controls Settings' icon at the bottom of the game screen.

Can I control the game with a USB gamepad instead of a keyboard?
Yes, it is possible. Most online emulators support gamepad control. For a better gaming experience, we definitely recommend installing a gamepad. You can then easily set its controls in the emulator itself by clicking on the 'Controls Settings' icon. If you don't have a USB gamepad, buy one from e.g. Amazon, or AliExpress or your favorite online store.

Why can't I find my favorite childhood game?
The dapplebrook.shop catalogue is extensive, but it cannot include every historical game. Some titles have not yet been added, others do not work reliably in the available online emulators, and some are not published because they are still commercially available or their distribution status is unclear. If a particular game is missing, you can send us its title by e-mail, although we cannot guarantee that it will be added.

Can I download a game's ROM file to my computer?
For some games, yes. Downloads are offered only for selected titles that, according to the information available to us, are no longer normally offered for sale. If a game is still commercially available, we do not provide a download. The fact that a game can be played online therefore does not automatically mean that its ROM file can also be downloaded.

How does dapplebrook.shop approach copyright?
dapplebrook.shop focuses on preserving and providing access to historical video games, particularly titles that are no longer normally offered for sale. Emulation of older hardware and copyright in individual games are two separate issues. “Abandonware” has no special legal status, and copyright may continue even when a game is no longer sold. We therefore try not to provide downloads of games that we know are still commercially available and to respect the rights of their owners.
